Security, privacy, and peace of mind with glass

The already excellent toughened safety glass can be upgraded to laminated glass. Designed to hold together in the event of breakage, laminated glass provides better glass protection and is used during the security testing of doors. Laminated glass also provides UV protection protecting fading on furniture and fabrics.

For your bathrooms, Aluminium Doors and Windows Ltd provide a complete collection of traditional and contemporary obscure glass. Even better, you can choose the level of privacy you want from basic to full, using a deeper glass pattern.

Glass for Acoustics and Solar Control

If doors and windows are located on a South or South-West elevation, we provide options for better solar control with suitable solar or tinted glass and the latest the latest blinds housed in the glass.

For homes and commercial properties on main roads, near schools or city centres, acoustic glass provides an excellent solution for added noise reduction over and above standard double or triple-glazed units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What glass is available for windows and doors?

The glass choices available for your new windows and doors are extensive, depending on what you need. Modern technology also gives you options for better acoustics, improved insulation, solar control, privacy and shading.

What glass comes as standard in patio doors?

All doors must have safety glass; as standard, you can expect 28mm double-glazed toughened units. Triple glazing is available with most doors as well.

What is the best glass for houses?

Whilst you can choose virtually any glass type for your project, Building Regulations now dictate some specifications. One of these is safety glass in all doors and windows at a lower level or for door side panels. The other is insulation, with the glass and window frames working together to achieve the required U-Values, window and door energy ratings to comply with Building Regulations. Therefore the minimum glass specification should be with a soft-coat low-emissivity coating, warm edge spacer bars and argon gas fill.

What is the difference between laminated and toughened glass?

Both glass types are strong and are designed for doors and critical areas where impact is a risk. Toughened glass is heat-treated and is strong and resilient. In the event it breaks, it shatters into thousands of blunt and harmless pieces. Laminated glass is designed to hold together should it break. Just like a car windscreen, it will crack but hold together.

What is better, double or triple glazing?

Both double or triple glazing works great in new doors and windows, providing insulation. Triple glazing is even more insulated and can provide better acoustics, but it also makes your new windows and doors slightly heavier, owing to the extra piece of glass. The choice between double and triple glazing very much depends on how you want your windows and doors to perform in terms of energy-efficiency, overall insulation and comfort.
